National Film Development Fund

The National Film Development Fund was established with the aim of promoting the development of the local film industry, in accordance with the regulations set forth in the Extraordinary Gazette No. 799/1 dated 1993.12.27, as amended by Gazette No. 946/9 dated 1996.10.24.

This Fund is administrated by a Board of Control.

The key objectives of the Fund are as follows:

  • To provide financial support and incentives for the production of high-quality artistic and commercially successful local films.
  • To support the improvement of cinemas and provide assistance in upgrading technical equipment.
  • To offer local and international scholarships to qualified film artists and technical professionals in order to enhance their skills and expertise.

The NFC Trust for Film Artistes and Technicians

The National Film Corporation Trust Fund for Film Artistes and Technicians was established under Parliament Act No. 3 of 1986 of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The Trust is administrated, managed, and supervised by a Board of Trustees. On May 11, 1987, a 10-member committee, led by then-President J.R. Jayewardene, launched the first pension disbursement program.

Currently, the pension scheme supports 189 qualified film artistes and technical professionals aged 60 years and above. Each eligible recipient receives a monthly pension of Rs. 5,000/-
